📘 2. NARRATIVE VERSION

Health Consulting International (HCI) operates through a comprehensive, integrated organizational structure designed to strengthen health systems, empower communities, and build global leadership capacity. At the center of the institution is the Office of the Founder & President, which provides strategic direction, global health diplomacy, and high‑level advisory support to governments, ministries, and international partners. This office also leads faith‑based and integrative‑spiritual outreach, ensuring that HCI’s work remains grounded in holistic, community‑centered values.

The Global Health Consulting Division serves as the technical engine of HCI, delivering community engagement, health education, disease‑specific interventions, and public health programming across multiple countries. Its portfolio spans maternal and reproductive health, child survival, infectious diseases, chronic diseases, urban health, and minority health equity. This division also supports ministries of health through global health outreach missions and technical assistance.

Complementing this work, the Governance & Policy Advisory Division strengthens health systems through governance reform, leadership advisory services, and policy development. It integrates social determinants of health and accountability mechanisms into national and sub‑national health strategies, ensuring sustainable and equitable outcomes.

The Research & Strategic Communications Division amplifies HCI’s impact through evidence‑based communication, media engagement, and knowledge dissemination. Through Healthndevelopment Magazine & Media, the division produces scientific articles, newsletters, and public health messaging that reach diverse audiences.

To build long‑term human capital, HCI operates the Leadership & Workforce Development Division, home to the Global Health Leadership Academy (GHLA). GHLA provides fellowships, mentorship, ambassador programs, digital learning, and leadership training for emerging and mid‑career professionals worldwide.

Finally, the Workforce Training & Capacity Building Division delivers seminars, workshops, ITPE preparation, community health worker training, and technical education programs that strengthen the skills of health professionals and frontline workers.

Together, these divisions form a unified institutional framework that advances HCI’s mission: strengthening health systems, empowering communities, and developing global health leaders who can drive sustainable change

Dr. Ntuba Akwo Thompson: Bridging Health and Sustainable Development Through Media

For nearly a decade, Dr. Ntuba Akwo Thompson, founder and editor of HealthNDevelopment magazine and media, has been a pivotal figure in advocating for the interconnectedness of health and sustainable development. His work in the United States has illuminated the intricate relationships between health, the third Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), and a plethora of other critical global objectives including poverty alleviation, education, food security, clean energy, sustainable cities, and global partnerships. Dr. Thompson's efforts have underscored what is increasingly recognized as the social and environmental determinants of health.

Linking Health and Sustainable Development Goals

The third SDG aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. Dr. Thompson's platform has tirelessly worked to show that achieving this goal is inextricably linked to the success of other SDGs. He has highlighted how poverty alleviation (SDG 1) directly impacts health outcomes, as individuals with higher socioeconomic status generally have better access to healthcare services, nutritious food, and clean living environments. By addressing poverty, communities can make significant strides toward improving overall health and well-being.

Education and Food Security

Dr. Thompson has also emphasized the critical role of education (SDG 4) in health. Through HealthNDevelopment, he has showcased stories and studies demonstrating how education empowers individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed health decisions, reduce risky behaviors, and access health services. Moreover, food security (SDG 2) is a recurring theme in his work. Adequate nutrition is fundamental to health, and Dr. Thompson has shed light on the need for sustainable agricultural practices and equitable food distribution to ensure that all individuals have access to the nourishment they need for healthy development.

Clean Energy and Sustainable Cities

The push for clean energy (SDG 7) is another area where Dr. Thompson has drawn connections to health. By advocating for cleaner energy sources, he has highlighted the health benefits of reducing pollution and mitigating climate change. Through his media platform, Dr. Thompson has promoted the adoption of renewable energy technologies that reduce harmful emissions, improve air quality, and consequently enhance public health.

Additionally, the creation of healthy and sustainable cities (SDG 11) is a key focus of his work. Dr. Thompson has reported on urban development initiatives that prioritize green spaces, promote active transportation, and ensure access to healthcare facilities. These initiatives are crucial for building environments that support the physical and mental well-being of urban populations.

Global Partnerships

Dr. Thompson has continuously stressed the importance of global partnerships (SDG 17) in achieving health and sustainable development goals. Through HealthNDevelopment, he has fostered collaborations between various stakeholders, including governments, non-governmental organizations, academia, and the private sector. These partnerships have facilitated the sharing of knowledge, resources, and innovations necessary to address complex global health challenges.

The Social and Environmental Determinants of Health

Dr. Thompson's work embodies the understanding that health is shaped by a wide array of social and environmental factors. By addressing issues such as economic inequality, education, food security, energy, urban planning, and international cooperation, he has shown that improving health outcomes requires a multifaceted approach. His efforts have brought to the forefront the need for policies and interventions that consider these determinants, ensuring that health is not viewed in isolation but as a part of a larger socio-environmental context.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Dr. Ntuba Akwo Thompson's dedication to linking health with sustainable development goals through HealthNDevelopment magazine and media has made a significant impact over the past decade. His holistic approach to health advocacy highlights the importance of addressing the social and environmental determinants of health to achieve lasting improvements in well-being. By fostering global partnerships and promoting comprehensive, sustainable solutions, Dr. Thompson continues to be a driving force in the pursuit of a healthier, more equitable world.

Global Health and Leadership: Reflections from an International Forum

In the vibrant city of New Orleans, a historic gathering of global health professionals and thought leaders took place, addressing some of the most pressing challenges in health and development. Among the distinguished participants were Dr. Ntuba Thompson Akwo, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Dr. Rajiv Shah, former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, former NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins, former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, and the CEO of the Ford Foundation. Their collective expertise and experiences provided a rich tapestry of insights into the complexities of global health governance, research funding, and pandemic response.

One of the central themes of the forum was the impact of health science research funding cuts during the Trump administration. These reductions posed significant challenges to scientific innovation and public health preparedness, particularly in the face of emerging global threats. The participants underscored the importance of sustained investment in research to ensure resilience against pandemics like Ebola and COVID-19.

The forum also delved into the international response to pandemics, highlighting both successes and shortcomings. The Ebola outbreak served as a case study, illustrating the critical role of global collaboration and the need for robust health systems in affected regions. The discussions emphasized that effective pandemic response requires not only scientific expertise but also strong leadership and clear communication.

National leadership in the United States during the Trump administration was another focal point. The participants explored how leadership decisions influenced public trust, policy implementation, and international cooperation. They reflected on the lessons learned and the path forward to strengthen global health governance.

Many of the issues discussed at the forum are chronicled in books authored by the participants, offering deeper insights into their perspectives and experiences. These works serve as valuable resources for policymakers, researchers, and the public, fostering a greater understanding of the interconnectedness of health, development, and leadership.

In conclusion, the forum in New Orleans was a testament to the power of collaboration and dialogue in addressing global health challenges. It underscored the need for sustained investment, strong leadership, and international cooperation to build a healthier and more equitable world.
