About 4.5 billion people live in cities or Urban environments with their health and Wellbeing affected by the Urban or city environments where they live . Urban health is dependent on the Healthy cities friendly policies and initiatives put in place by municipal leaders and or authorities . Some of the Chronic diseases prevalent in certain cities are as a result of lack of adequate play and recreational facilities , and opportunities for cycling and other sports events .

  Pollution with  certain industrial waste has led to greater incidence of cancers in certain urban communities . Road and traffic injuries are common in certain cities because of poor Municipal planning . Flooding and adverse weather conditions like hurricanes as a consequence of Climate change impact on Urban environments and residents require cities and municipalities to have resiliency and Sustainability initiatives in place like in the city of Houston under mayor Sylvester Turner . 

Housing for the residents and good mass transit systems are social determinants of health of residents of Urban communities . 

Cities with high crime rates and homicides affect the residents both physical and mentally .

 Public safety and prompt response to fire outbreaks contribute to the health and wellbeing of residents of Urban communities .
